Football is finally back in The Boot!!

Are you ready for some football?! After so much uncertainty and speculation of not playing, high school football is finally back in Louisiana. This first week is anything but short of some great games to kickoff the 2020 High School Football season. Here are our Week 1 Games of The Week.

Edna Karr Senior wide receiver Destyn Hill.

Warren Easton (4A) vs. Edna Karr (4A)

Saturday October 3rd, 7pm at Hoss Memtsas Stadium

We have a rematch of the 2019 class 4A state championship game, Easton vs. Karr. Karr beat Easton in a thriller for the state championship 35-34 to clinch there 4th straight title. Warren Easton is looking to get its first win against Karr in the last six meetings losing all, including twice in the state championship game. These matchups are always a heavy weight fight between these two great programs.

Karr’s senior five-star Wide Receiver Destyn Hill (Sr.) will be looking to have another great season with new starting Quarterback AJ Samuel (So.). Easton will also have a new signal caller in Keddrick Connelly (So.) but will have experience at the Receiver position with Texas commit Casey Cain (Sr.) and Alred Luke Jr. (Sr.). Both defenses will have there hands full with these high powered Offenses.

John Ehert senior safety Kaine Williams is an Alabama commit.

G.W. Carver (4A) vs John Ehert (5A)

Thursday October 1st, 6:30pm at Hoss Memtsas Stadium

Carver and Ehert are always an exciting matchup to see. John Ehert won last years meeting against Carver 36-30. Ehert is looking to have similar success to last season with an 8-2 record but losing in the first round of the playoffs. Carvers 6-4 record from last year doesn’t show the close fought games they almost won and making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs losing to the state champion Karr Cougars.

Ehert has a solid young core looking to make a lot of noise in 5A this year. Alabama commit Kaine Williams (Sr.) is stud playing sideline to sideline and locking up the middle of the field. Ehert also has Memphis commit Andrew Jones (Sr.) who is a consistent every down back. Carver lost talented quarterback Quincy Curry and edge rusher Khari Coleman who is now at TCU. Playmaker Lynarise Elpheage will still be a problem for defenses and the speed Carver has all over the field is unmatched.

Senior defensive lineman Glenn Davidson.

Helen Cox (4A) vs. Jesuit (Division I)

Friday October 2nd, 7pm at Hoss Memtsas Stadium

The Jesuit Blue Jays and Helen Cox cougars will be looking to get their first win with new Head coaches. Helen Cox now has former Landry-Walker Head Coach and State Champion Emanuel Powell. He will be looking to be better then Cox last year record of 2-8 without a playoff appearance. Jesuits Longtime coach, Coach Mack Songy, retired at the end of last season. Scott Bairnsfather will be the interim head coach. The Blue Jay’s finished with a 6-4 record last season, maligning it to the playoffs but losing in the 2nd round to John Curtis.

The cougars are a young team on the rise. Missouri State commit and playmaker athlete Khari Fields (Sr.) is looking to have a big senior season playing Wide Receiver and Quarterback at times. On the defensive side of the ball, Cox has disruptive defensive lineman Glenn Davidson (Sr.) and explosive Linebacker Damien Beard (Sr.). Jesuit has a good bit of returning starters with talent all over the field. The Blue Jays will have Jack Larriviere (Jr.) at Quarterback and two experienced Wide Receivers in Luke Besh (Sr.) and Luke Laforge (Sr.), for him to the throw the ball to.

Senior safety Caleb Spann is committed to Central Michigan

John Curtis (Division I) vs. Landry-Walker (5A)

Friday October 2nd, 7pm at Behrman Stadium

John Curtis and Landry-Walker will be opening their season against each other this Friday. The John Curtis Patriots will be looking to have similar success to its last year 9-1 regular season campaign, but losing to Catholic B.R. in the second round of the playoffs. Legendary Coach J.T. Curtis will be looking for his 600th win as a head coach this season, only 8 wins away. The Landry-Walker Charging Bucs finished with a 3-6 record last season under 1st year head coach and former Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis. Landry-Walker lost to Curtis last season in a 72-12 blowout. Going into his second season, Lewis is looking to put the pieces together and bring the Charging Bucs back to a State Championship caliber team.

The Charging Bucs have six(6) returning starters on both sides of the ball, including the entire secondary which is a huge plus for Coach Lewis personally. They will also have their Quarterback Justin Hudson (Sr.) back under center. Hudson has a big arm and can also make teams pay with his legs. The Patriots will also have a new signal caller in Buddy Taylor (Jr.) who will be taking over for long time starter Collin Guggenheim, who is now at Army. On the defense, Lamar University commit Ellinus Noel III (Sr.) will still be the anchor in the middle if that defensive line. Curtis also has Central Michigan commit  Safety Caleb Spann (Sr.) who is a versatile playmaker in the Patriots secondary.
